Support the Bloomfield Food Bank

The Bloomfield Food Bank operates year-round thanks to generous donations from citizens, businesses, schools, religious institutions, and civic organizations. We accept donations Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

Please note: No perishables or expired items. We also accept unopened diapers of all sizes and wipes for our diaper bank.


Suggested Donation Items:

  • Canned Proteins: Tuna, salmon, sardines, canned chicken, turkey, SPAM, corned beef hash, chili, pork & beans, Vienna sausage, beef jerky, shelf-stable cheese
  • Canned Goods & Sauces: Vegetables, fruits, fruit cups, soup, stews, spaghetti sauce
  • Dry Goods & Boxed Meals: Pasta, rice, mac & cheese, instant potato mix, instant soup mixes, stuffing mix, pancake mix, brownie mix, cake mix, and frosting
  • Breakfast Items: Cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, pancake syrup, shelf-stable milk
  • Snack Foods: Cookies, snack cups, protein bars, single-size chips, and pretzels
  • Paper Products: Toilet paper, paper towels
  • Cooking Essentials: Olive oil, salt, pepper, salad dressings, garlic powder, onion powder, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, hot sauce, gravies

New Feature: Lock Your EBT Card

Protect yourself from fraud with the new EBT card lock feature. This security tool enables you to lock your card when not in use, thereby blocking fraudulent transactions.

How to Lock Your Card:

  1. Go to https://mydss.ct.gov and press "Login"
  2. Enter your MyAccount username and password
  3. Select "EBT Balance and Card Access" from the left-hand navigation
  4. Navigate to the Manage EBT Card Access section and select the radio button next to your EBT card number
  5. Use the toggle switch next to "Lock Card" OR "Block Out-of-State Transactions."
  6. Click the green Confirm button

You'll receive a confirmation message when successful. Don't forget to unlock your card before you plan to use it!

Generation Power CT serves over 5,000 households and prioritizes families facing shut-offs or low-fuel emergencies.

Generation Power CT

Eversource Low Income Discount Rate (LIDR)

You may be eligible for a 10% or 50% discount on your monthly electric bill if you have a financial hardship status on your electric account. The LIDR replaces the Below Budget Payment for electric customers enrolled in the Matching Payment Program.

CNG Winter Protection Plan

Protects eligible households from utility service shut-off through May 1st. Qualifying customers may enroll in the Matching Payment Program (MPP). CNG will match every dollar paid by you or on your behalf (up to a zero balance) if you successfully complete the plan.

Note: Households must be approved for Energy Assistance to enroll.

You are required to provide the following documentation during your appointment (paper copies only):

  1. Heating Information: Deliverable fuel vendor information or recent utility bill for both gas and electric.
  2. Social Security Cards: Photo IDs and Social Security Cards for all household members are required.
  3. Electric Bill: A current bill is required even if you use gas or other fuel types.
  4. Income Documentation: Income information for the previous 30 days or 4 consecutive weeks (any time in the last 3 months prior to the date of your application) is required.
  5. Rent & Mortgage: Lease, rent receipt, mortgage statements, tax bill or lot rent receipt. (Must provide landlord's name, address and phone number.)

Important: In order to process your application, you must have ALL documentation or you may have to reschedule your appointment.

Bloomfield Backpack Weekend Meal Program Does your child attend school in Bloomfield? Need support with food over the weekends? The Bloomfield Backpack Program provides food every Friday to families in need through partnerships with Bloomfield Congregational Church and other community organizations. Full Bowls Pet Pantry

A free community, volunteer pet pantry for Connecticut low-income families in need. Each approved family receives a one-week supply of kibble per dog (about 14 cups each), sorted by protein type such as chicken or beef. When available, we'll also include donated extras like wet food, treats, or toys to make tails wag a little more.

Senior Services Dishes Out "The Silver Scoop" with Exciting Redesign

The Town of Bloomfield is excited to announce that our Senior Services Department is giving their monthly newsletter a fresh identity and new name: "The Bloomfield Silver Scoop." The dedicated senior services team is reimagining how they engage with Bloomfield's active adult population. This new look represents more than just a visual refresh. It reflects a commitment to meeting the evolving needs in our community. "Our mission is to serve as a welcoming focal point for the delivery of services to adults 55+ and their support network by responding to diverse needs and interests in a manner that will enhance dignity, support independence, health, and general well-being, as well as encourage involvement in the Senior Center and Community," said Director Yvette Huyghue-Pannell. "This newsletter transformation is part of our broader effort to ensure that Senior Services remains accessible, relevant, and responsive." Located at 330 Park Avenue, the Bloomfield Senior Services Department provides a wide range of support, including nutritional services through the Community Café, wellness screenings, fitness classes, social activities and transportation. The newsletter will continue to highlight these essential programs while introducing a new digital and print format to keep our community better connected.
