A NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE FROM MAYOR ANTHONY C. HARRINGTON

Dear Bloomfield Residents,

As your Mayor, I remain committed to working tirelessly on your behalf. Bloomfield is an exceptionally diverse and vibrant community, and we are fully prepared to help our residents thrive in one of the most beautiful towns in Connecticut.

Supporting our young people remains a top priority. We continue to encourage our youth to reach for the stars—throughout their developmental years and beyond. Our goal is to expand college and community-based partnerships that strengthen college readiness and offer meaningful pre-employment experiences to help students transition successfully into the workforce.

We are also deeply mindful of the diverse housing needs across our community—from young families and first-time homebuyers to longtime residents, including our seniors. To address these priorities, we are developing policies and procedures to begin allocating resources from our Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Additionally, a number of tax relief programs, including those available to eligible seniors, may be available through the Town Assessor’s Office.

I am pleased to share that Bloomfield has submitted an $18.9 million Community Investment Fund (CIF) grant application to support the Town Center Redevelopment Project. This initiative represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to revitalize the heart of our community. After decades of economic stagnation and disinvestment, this project—with its foundation in comprehensive planning and robust public engagement—aims to create a central public space that will serve as Bloomfield’s emotional and civic hub for gatherings, events, and daily connection.

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending ribbon-cutting ceremonies for two businesses that reflect the growth and promise of our local economy. New Creation Academy on Cottage Grove Road has renovated over 10,000 square feet to expand its multifaceted childcare facility. Windsor Federal Bank has also completed a full renovation in anticipation of Bloomfield’s downtown resurgence.

We are at a pivotal moment, with new economic development opportunities emerging throughout our community. For example, a new fifty-five-and-over housing development is planned for Blue Hills Avenue. The project will include 164 units, 19 of which will be designated as affordable housing.

As we enter the holiday season, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all of our residents and local businesses for a joyful, peaceful, and meaningful celebration. This is a special time to gather with loved ones, reflect on what truly matters, and strengthen the bonds that make Bloomfield such a special place.

As you enjoy time with family and friends, I also encourage you to support our local businesses whose dedication and hard work enrich our community all year long. Together, we can ensure that the spirit of community continues to shine throughout the season and into the new year.
